Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Proverbs 31:10 NIV
To be a virtuous woman should be all christian girls dreams. In Proverbs 31 King Soloman talks about how a virtuous woman cares for her household. "She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. Verse 21." As John McArthur talked about in one of his sermons is that wives/moms today have become more of "Trophy Wives." Women today have come to care more about their appearance instead of worrying if their family will have a prepared meal on the dinner table. Women today think more towards worldly goals for their family instead of eternal goals. We as women should want to please our husbands in all that we do. We should have the goal to raise our families through Christ. A mother of God will teach her sons early the wicked of the world so he will be aware and will stay away from those temptations. She will teach her daughters how to be loyal to their spouses and will teach them how to tend for their household. "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in the tongue is the law of kindness. Verse 26." Her husband will trust her because he is confident that she will not dissapoint him. He will be able to open up to her and know that she will support him because she cares for him. She will seek for the best of her husband. She will devote her happiness to the success of her husband. She will serve him everday of her life. "She will do him good and not evil for all the days of her life. Verse 12." She will keep him accountable for his sins and aware him of his weaknesses. She will seek his best interest and will help him to be the best father, workman, husband, etc. She will help build her husbands reputation and advance his respect so that he will be known as a man of God. "Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth amoung the elders of the land. Verse 23." She looks for things to be fixed so that her house will be pleasent to her family. She will go as far as the east to the west to find the best for her family. She finds joy in the work she does around the house because she loves the people whom she does it for. It is her love that drives her to do her best in her work. She devotes herself to her husband and kids because she loves them. "She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. Verse 14." She strengthens the people who are weak and ill. She wants to help people in need. "She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth out her hands for the needy. Verse 20." This woman is who I strive to be and encourage every girl of all age to as well. Some say I am to young to worry about what kind of spouse I want to be but no I am not. Every girl should pratice now to be the wife of her husband and the mother of her kids that is pleasing to God. We should be asking God to help show us how to be a virtuous woman in all that we do. "Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, shall be praised. Verse 30."
Note: John McArthur's sermon on Proverbs 31 provided a good resource for this devotion.
